I took advantage of the weather today to get out to my local park and activate. Low wind, sun and 55+ degrees made for great portable radio operation.
My local park has a historical marker informing visitors of the “Lone Elm campground” on the California, Oregon and Santa Fe trails. For Parks on the Air activations, this means it is a 3’fer. Always good to get 3 activations for the price of 1.
I set up my 10 meter fiberglass mast with the 41’ EFRW (homemade) antenna and made 19 contacts. 17 on 20 meters and 2 on 17 meters.
As usual I had a ton of fun, but it was super exciting because this was my first activation an a retired person. It’s going to be great getting out on weekdays whenever I feel like and/or the weather is cooperative.
